Bangkok - Buddha Statues

Bangkok comes across as an exquisite mix of the traditions of the East with the modern lifestyle and amenities of the West. Rather there are two faces of Bangkok; one is the frenetic and hassled metropolis while the other takes you through the rich and vibrant pages of history. Bangkok presents an excellent blend of the two extremes; vibrating with dynamism but at the same time exulting a serene calm.

Bangkok means 'City of Angels'. The ancient name of the city is Krung Thep. Bangkok is the capital city of Thailand and its largest city too. Bangkok is home to more than twelve million people, almost one fifth of the entire population of Thailand. It is on the banks of the river, Chao Phraya with close proximity to Gulf of Thailand.

Bangkok extends over thirty-two kilometres in all directions covering an area of 7,758 square kilometres (2,995 square miles). Provinces coming within Bangkok include Nonthaburi, Nakhon Pathom, Pathum Thani, Samut Songkhram, and Samut Prakan. Bangkok is a major commercial centre of Southeast Asia. It is also the commercial, financial, administrative, economic, and cultural centre of Thailand. Bangkok exhibits all features of an important city on the globe with choking and unending traffic jams, designer clothes, and mobile phones in every second person's hand.
