Thai Restaurants in Bangkok

Bangkok Restaurants | Bangkok restaurants and Thai food

For some of the best food during your Thai holiday, be sure to visit at least one of the authentic Thai restaurants in Bangkok. Thai food is among the most popular cuisine in the world and more people in the West are discovering this delicious style of cooking that blends fresh ingredients with just the right herbs and spices to make dishes that are delectable for any palate.

There are many different Thai restaurants in Bangkok. While some offer authentic Thai food, others feature Western menus that combine some Western favorites with Thai spices. Depending upon your taste and sense of adventure, you may try one or all of the Thai restaurants in Bangkok. While taking your Thai holiday, however, you are urged to try at least one Thai dish. Even the most finicky eaters will find something they like on their extensive menus.

As in most countries, regions determine different types of cuisine. In the north and northeast of Thailand, barbeque seafood is all the rage. It is usually served with dipping sauces. Contrary to popular belief, Thai food is not all hot and spicy. The dipping sauces, however, made with curries, can be very spicy. If you are concerned about having food that is too spicy, ask your server as he will be able to recommend foods that will not wreak havoc on your digestive tract. For the most part, Thai food is very light and healthy. They use a lot of vegetables and even fruits in their cooking and also tend to make a lot of delicious seafood dishes. Rice is a common staple with all Thai meals and is often served steamed. On the whole, Thai food is good for the health conscious.

One unusual restaurant I found near Bangkok is called Cabbages and Condoms. For some reason, this oddly named restaurant decided to combine the concept of birth control with food. The profits from the restaurant support AIDS research, which is a good cause in itself. The menu is extensive and offers some of the best authentic Thai food you will eat. Free condoms are handed out with each meal which is quite a novelty and an interesting take-off of the Chinese fortune cookie.

The Blue Elephant is another one of the best Thai restaurants in Bangkok. This is a chain restaurant but the service is very good, polite and the waiters speak English, which is helpful. The Blue Elephant in Bangkok is located in an old colonial building that really contributes to a charming ambiance. The food is terrific, too, particularly if you love authentic Thai food.

One of the best Thai restaurants in Bangkok is the Mango Tree. This is located in an old house, which is charming enough. The atmosphere is exquisite and the Mango Tree is the perfect place to enjoy authentic Thai food in a romantic atmosphere. The food is excellent, as well as the service and classical music adds to the ambiance. One of the best dishes on the menu is the Gai Hor Bai Toey which is chicken wrapped in a Pandanus leaf. There are sauces to dip this in, but it is also delicious plain.

The Lemongrass is a favorite among Thai locals and includes dishes from all over Thailand, including some hot southern dishes. Try the hot and sour shrimp soup - it is the best in the city. The ambiance is quite nice and the restaurant is usually very crowded, which is a good sign, so ask your concierge to make reservations at the Lemongrass if you are planning to dine there on a weekend.

Thai restaurants in Bangkok have virtually something to offer everyone. From the hot and spicy southern fare to the sweet and sour northern cuisine, there is something to tempt every palate. Do yourself a favor during your Thai holiday and visit one or several of the Thai restaurants in Bangkok.
