Around Bangkok: Hua Hin

Bangkok Attractions | Attractions around Bangkok

A short distance from Bangkok is a nice little seaside town called Hua Hin. The sleepy little town attracts families and tourists who have purchased a vacation package. Because they are so close to Bangkok, Hua Hin also attracts a lot of Thai tourists, this helps lend to the Thai atmosphere to combine with the westernized factors of the foreign tourists. Hua Hin is a charming friendly place where the lanes are narrow lined with souvenir shops; and the donkey rides, deck chairs and ice cream vans on the beach.

Here in the town of Hua Hin, the main attraction is the beautiful beach. The beach measures 5 kilometers in length. Boulders dot the landscape, which adds to the beauty of the beach and creates small rock pools. Because of a rocky headland, which separates the main beach areas, Hua Hin's name means "headrock". These rocks in no way impede swimming. The sea is wonderful to for swimming, however you do have to watch out for the abundant jelly during the wet season.

Khao Takiab is at one end of the beach. You must walk up a slight incline to reach the modes temples, however the walk is a pleasant one. The hill and the temples are home to throng of monkeys whom will keep you company as you make your trek up the hill. The view from atop the hill gives a scenic view of the beach and the high-rise hotel dotting the skyline.

It is highly recommended you visit the Hua Hin's Chatchai market. You are able to sample some of the fresh seafood, which was caught nearby. There is vast number of culinary dishes available in the market. One could feasibly make a meal out of just sampling as many of the food choices offered as you wish without having a sit down meal.

As an avid golfer you will have the option to play golf while you are visiting Hua Hin. There are many equipment shops located in Hua Hin and golf tour can be easily arranged. The Imperial Lake View Hotel & Golf Club comes highly recommended. It is located just outside of Hua Hin in Cha Am. This Golf Club is ideal for the average player, however if you are looking for a championship course you will want to try the Springfield Royal Country Club also located Cha Am or the Majestic Creek Country Club directly inland from Hua Hin at Moo4 Tambol Tabtai.

Hua Hin is also one of Thailand's top locations to allow yourself to be pampered. The spas and massage parlors are high quality and abundant.

The restaurants in Hua Hin are diverse. If you wish to have dinner before returning to Bangkok, you will find Steak Houses, Italian restaurants, and Pizza Parlors in Hua Hin. As for the nightlife in Hua Hin, your options are very limited because Hua Hin focuses on family vacations. The Hilton Hotel has a nightclub with a live band on most nights and closes at 1 AM sharp.

To visit Hua Hin you may want to come by train or take one of the day trips from Bangkok. The trip will last about 4 hours. Buses also leave Bangkok's southern bus terminal 36 times a day between 4:20 am and 4:20 pm. If you wish to come by private car, you will want to take the southern Thonburi-Paktho Road, pass Samut Songkharn onto Petchkasem highway. From there you will want to go towards Prachuab Khirikhan. Eventually you will see the signs directing you to Hua Hin. This will be about a 3-hour drive.
