Golf in Bangkok Bangkok activities

With its year-round sunny weather, lush tropical greenery and superb golfing facilities, Bangkok is a great place to be for the golf enthusiast. Whether you are a tourist and or a business traveler, Bangkok's world-class golfing facilities and extensive selection of golf courses will have you spoiled for choice. There are more than fifty excellent courses situated within an 80-minute drive from Bangkok.

In Bangkok, most golf clubs do not require a club membership or handicap certificate to play the game. They are open to players of any skill level. As such, whether you are a novice or a professional golfer, you may indulge in endless rounds of golf at any of the city's first-rate golf courses.

Typically, green fees are relatively inexpensive, even on weekends and holidays. They cover you for all 18 holes. You will find some golf courses offering all-day green fees. On weekdays clubs permit flights up to 6 players. While there are no halfway houses, there will usually be a bar offering food and drink at after every other third hole.

Bangkok golf clubs do not offer rain checks. On the other hand, the need to break a round rarely arises, and in this event, most all the clubs will offer a free reservation for a later date or offer a generous discount.

You will most often than not, have to use a caddy - even if you are using a cart. Bangkok's golf caddies are typically women. They are friendly, and usually are experienced in the particular golf course. They will usually have valuable tips to offer, on how best to play the course. Caddie fees generally range from $4 to $6. A tip is customary, and will always earn you a happy smile.

If you prefer to walk rather than use a cart, your caddy will use a pull cart to carry your clubs. However, many clubs require that you use a cart on busy weekends.

Most clubs rent golf equipment including clubs, shoes and umbrellas. The shoes, however, are usually available in smaller Asian sizes. Not all the courses offer driving ranges. However, chipping and putting greens are widely available. There is a dress code prohibiting jeans, tank tops, t-shirts and sleeveless blouses. Shorts are allowed.

Many of the golf courses were built in just the last two decades, and their club houses are typically luxuriously appointed. All the clubs offer showers, lockers, a towel service and changing facilities. A restaurant and Pro shop are also available.
